KP Government Announces Public Holiday for 1st Muharram 1448 AH

The Muharram holiday has been officially announced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the provincial government declared a public holiday on the 1st of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH (2026). The decision applies across all government offices and public institutions in the province.

Moreover, the announcement aligns with the expected commencement of the new Islamic year following the moon sighting decision by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The notification confirms that the holiday will be observed statewide in KP.

Muharram Holiday KP Notification Issued

The Muharram holiday notification was issued by the Administration Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It clearly states that all government offices and public sector institutions will remain closed on 1st Muharram.

Furthermore, the decision reflects standard observance procedures followed in Pakistan based on the Islamic lunar calendar. The timing of the holiday depends on the official moon sighting announcement.

In addition, authorities confirmed that the closure will apply uniformly across the province without exceptions for government departments.

Muharram Holiday Ruet-e-Hilal Decision

The Muharram holiday is linked to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s moon sighting decision, which determines the beginning of the Islamic new year. Once the moon is sighted, Muharram-ul-Haram officially begins.

According to the notification, Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH is expected to commence in Pakistan on Wednesday, June 17. This marks the start of the new Hijri year.

Moreover, the announcement ensures synchronization of public observance across provinces based on religious and administrative confirmation.

Muharram Holiday Government Closure Details

The Muharram holiday will result in the closure of all government offices, departments, and public institutions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Essential services are expected to continue under standard emergency protocols.

Additionally, citizens are advised to follow official updates regarding moon sighting and any further adjustments in the holiday schedule.

The provincial government emphasized that the notification is part of routine annual observance of Islamic calendar events, ensuring alignment with national decisions and religious authorities.
