In the first operation, militants attempted to attack security forces’ check posts in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan district. However, troops repelled the assault and killed eight militants during an exchange of fire, ISPR said.

Meanwhile, security forces conducted another operation in Dir district and killed two more militants. Troops also recovered weapons and ammunition from those killed. According to ISPR, the militants had remained involved in several terrorist activities in the region.

Furthermore, security forces launched sanitisation operations to clear the area and eliminate any remaining militants.

ISPR said Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue with full force to eliminate terrorism from the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately praised the security forces for the successful operations. They reaffirmed the nation’s support for the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism.

President Zardari commended the professionalism of the security forces for foiling the attack in South Waziristan. He said the nation highly values the sacrifices made by the armed forces and law enforcement personnel.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, currently on a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, also lauded the troops for their courage and professional capabilities. He said operations under Azm-e-Istehkam would continue until terrorism is completely eradicated from Pakistan. He added that the government and the nation stand united with the security forces in the ongoing campaign against militancy.

Separately, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi also paid tribute to the security forces. He said operations against militants and their facilitators would continue until the country is free from terrorism. He added that the nation remains proud of the courage and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces.
