Karachi: Italian Navy ship ITS Antonio Marceglia arrived at Karachi Port on Tuesday for a three-day goodwill visit, marking a significant step forward in Pakistan-Italy maritime collaboration. The visit is part of the frigate’s broader Indo-Pacific operational projection campaign, focused on naval diplomacy and strategic engagement in the region.

The vessel was warmly received by senior officials from the Pakistan Navy, the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Marilina Armellin, and members of the Italian Consulate in Karachi.

Strengthening Bilateral Naval Ties

According to the Pakistan Navy’s Directorate General of Public Relations (DGPR), the crew of the Antonio Marceglia will take part in a range of professional engagements, including cross-ship visits, maritime security discussions, and joint training sessions with their Pakistani counterparts.

“These engagements are designed to foster deeper mutual understanding, enhance bilateral naval cooperation, and advance operational interoperability,” the Navy stated.

Industry Day and Joint Exercises

On June 17, the frigate will host an Industry Day onboard, bringing together Pakistani stakeholders and Italian industry leaders to showcase technological, industrial, and defense capabilities under the broader Sistema Italia initiative.

The visit will conclude on June 20 with a joint ‘Passex’ exercise at sea between the Italian Navy and Pakistan Navy. This collaborative drill will test tactical coordination, crew readiness, and equipment efficiency, reflecting the shared resolve of both navies to work together for regional maritime security.

Commitment to Regional Stability

The Italian Navy emphasized that the deployment of ITS Antonio Marceglia in the Indo-Pacific reaffirms Italy’s commitment to international cooperation, defense diplomacy, and regional stability.

The Pakistan Navy noted that regular visits by Italian naval ships underscore the strong and growing partnership between the two countries, particularly in the maritime domain. These visits are part of broader efforts to counter illicit activities, including smuggling, piracy, and drug trafficking, through international cooperation.
