Karachi: Pakistan and Turkiye share a unique bond described as “two countries but one nation,” emphasized Mr. Cemal Sangu, Consul General of the Republic of Turkiye, during a meeting with the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) delegation led by Dr. Danish Aman, Chairman Southern Zone. The meeting took place at the Turkish Consulate premises.

Mr. Sangu highlighted Turkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan, recalling the historic assistance during the Khalafat movement. Dr. Danish Aman expressed gratitude for Turkiye’s support during recent tensions with India and praised the success of Operation Bunyaan un Marsoos.

The delegation included PTA Central Chairman Mr. Hamid Arshad Zahur, Vice Chairmen Mr. Danish Aman and Mr. Yousuf Shafiq, alongside other key members. Mr. Murat Ozmen, Commercial Attaché of Turkiye, was also present.

Turkiye and Pakistan enjoy strong trade relations, particularly in the leather industry. Turkish manufacturers export chemicals, tanning machinery, and raw materials to Pakistan, while finished leather goods, garments, gloves, and footwear are exported back to Turkiye. Both sides agreed to boost bilateral trade through increased market exploration, trade delegations, and potential joint ventures.

Mr. Sangu announced that a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two countries is nearing completion. He encouraged the Pakistan Tanners Association to coordinate with the Ministry of Commerce to leverage preferential tariffs.

PTA Chairman Dr. Danish Aman invited Mr. Sangu and Mr. Ozmen to the Pakistan Mega Leather Show (PMLS) 2026 in Lahore. The delegation requested Turkish manufacturers to participate and tap into Pakistan’s approximately $1 billion leather market.
