Karachi: The Government of Japan has announced a grant of $95,311 (PKR 26.5 million) to two local NGOs, Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) and Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), for development projects in Sindh.
The grant contracts were signed by the Consul General of Japan, Mr. HATTORI Masaru, and representatives of the NGOs at the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi on November 28, 2024.
Empowering Women with Disabilities
The Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) will receive $31,329 (PKR 8.7 million) to purchase transport vehicles and vocational training equipment. This initiative aims to empower approximately 40 low-income women with disabilities daily, helping them achieve social and economic independence through skill development.
Enhancing Water and Sanitation Facilities
The Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) will utilize $63,982 (PKR 17.8 million) to build climate-resilient water filtration plants and sanitation systems. These facilities will provide clean water to around 6,000 villagers and improved sanitation to 850 villagers daily, reducing waterborne diseases and environmental pollution.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. HATTORI highlighted his hope for the projects’ significant impact on local communities, uplifting lives and fostering happiness.
The Government of Japan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives in Pakistan for improved well-being and sustainable development.
