Karachi: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi commemorated the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence with a flag hoisting ceremony on Sunday morning. The event was presided over by Dewanto Priyokusumo, Charge d’Affaires, and attended by Indonesian citizens living in Karachi, including students and mixed-married families of Indonesian and Pakistani descent.
Theme of Progress and Prosperity
This year’s celebration carried the theme “Bersatu Berdaulat Rakyat Sejahtera Indonesia Maju” — meaning “United, Sovereign, Prosperous People for a Progressive Indonesia.” The ceremony reflected solemn respect for the nation’s independence and its ongoing journey of progress.

President Prabowo’s Message
In his address, Mr. Priyokusumo conveyed President Prabowo’s national message, which emphasized:
- Freedom from poverty and hunger.
- Economic sovereignty to ensure people’s welfare.
- The fight against corruption and the need to uphold rule of law.
President Prabowo also highlighted achievements such as the Free Nutritious Meals program, infrastructure development, and education reforms aimed at building a productive generation.

Celebration of Culture and Friendship
Following the ceremony, the Indonesian diaspora enjoyed traditional Indonesian dishes and fun games, creating an atmosphere of joy, unity, and cultural pride. The event strengthened bonds among Indonesian families residing in Sindh Province.

Pakistan–Indonesia Shared Spirit of Independence
The celebration also underlined the shared spirit between Pakistan and Indonesia, with both nations marking independence days in August — Pakistan on the 14th and Indonesia on the 17th. This resemblance reflects the common goals of two of the world’s largest Muslim countries to strengthen bilateral ties and foster mutual understanding.
