Indonesia Independence Day was celebrated in Karachi on August 17 as the Consulate General of Indonesia marked the country’s 81st anniversary with the Indonesian community and their families in Sindh.
The celebrations began with a flag-hoisting ceremony. A reception followed, featuring Indonesian cultural performances and a culinary bazaar.
Pakistani government officials, diplomats, ASEAN representatives and business partners attended the event.
The Government of Pakistan was represented by H.E. Mr. Irfan Soomro, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Liaison Office in Karachi, who attended as the chief guest.

The event also brought together the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Consuls General from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Honorary Consuls General from Ethiopia, Morocco, Yemen and the Philippines also attended.
In his remarks, Consul General of Indonesia H.E. Mr. Mudzakir highlighted the longstanding brotherly ties between Indonesia and Pakistan.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. He also stressed the importance of stronger people-to-people relations between the two countries.
As chief guest, Irfan Soomro recalled the close relationship established by the founding fathers of Indonesia and Pakistan.
He said the historic bond provides a strong foundation for deeper economic cooperation, stronger business connections and closer ties between the peoples of both countries.
Guests praised the flag ceremony and enjoyed Indonesian cultural and culinary offerings during the celebration.
Several organisations supported prizes for members of the Indonesian community. These included IBM, PIBCN, Emirates Airline, Polani Travel, Westbury Group, PIBF, Indomie, Mehran Enterprises, M.H. Panhwar Farms and Imtiaz Supermarket.
The guests also expressed hope that Indonesia-Pakistan relations will continue to grow across trade, investment, culture, education, tourism and other areas.
