Goods Transporters Nationwide Strike Enters Eighth Day as Talks Set for Karachi

Goods transporters across Pakistan have continued their peaceful strike for an eighth day, while negotiations with the government remain open, All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said.

Shahzad Awan said government and transport representatives will hold important talks today at Governor House Karachi.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, Sindh Governor, Sindh Transport Minister and other government officials will attend the meeting.

Transporters seek practical action

Shahzad Awan said transporters across the country have maintained a peaceful protest for eight days. He added that the nationwide strike will continue until the government accepts their demands.

The alliance president expressed hope that talks would help resolve the dispute. He said transporters want the government to take practical steps so that goods transportation can resume.

He also appealed to transporters to remain peaceful during the protest.

Shahzad Awan said transporters would not accept assurances alone. They want the federal and provincial governments to formally accept their demands and implement practical measures.

He expressed hope that the talks would produce positive results and allow transport operations to resume soon.
