Gemini 3.5 Pro Google Delays Flagship AI Model Release

Gemini 3.5 Pro has reportedly faced another delay as Google continues improving its flagship artificial intelligence model. According to Bloomberg News, the company is refining the model’s capabilities, particularly in coding.

The report said Google originally planned to release Gemini 3.5 Pro in June. However, the company has not announced a new launch date.

Alphabet Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai had announced the June timeline during Google’s annual I/O developer conference in May.

Meanwhile, the delay has raised concerns among some Google engineers, AI researchers and managers. Bloomberg reported that several employees believe competitors have gained an advantage in advanced AI models.

OpenAI and Anthropic have recently introduced new systems with stronger performance. As a result, competition in the artificial intelligence industry has intensified.

Bloomberg also reported that Google updated Gemini’s training data late last month. However, the improvements reportedly did not meet internal expectations.

Following the report, Alphabet shares fell nearly 3%.

In response, a Google spokesperson said the company is testing Gemini 3.5 Pro, an upgraded Flash model and other AI systems with selected partners. The spokesperson added that Google remains engaged with the US government while continuing to develop cost-effective AI models for customers.

Meanwhile, OpenAI released GPT-5.6 last week after delaying the launch because of requests from the US government over national security concerns.

Anthropic also temporarily restricted access to its advanced Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models after a US export control order. Later, the company restored access after introducing additional safeguards.
