QAU and SMIU officials sign an MoU to strengthen academic and research cooperation
ISLAMABAD: Education cooperation between Pakistan’s universities is set to expand after Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, and Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), Karachi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic and research collaboration.
QAU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal and SMIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai signed the agreement on August 20, 2026.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in research, technical collaboration, continuing education and community services.
Under the agreement, both universities will explore opportunities for faculty and student exchanges and develop joint academic and research programmes.
The two institutions will also collaborate on conferences, seminars and other academic activities while sharing educational materials and research publications.
The agreement further encourages both universities to work together to promote an entrepreneurial ecosystem and create opportunities for innovation and knowledge-based initiatives.

Dr. Salma Malik, Director of External Linkages at QAU, also attended the meeting.
The partnership is expected to strengthen institutional links between the two universities and create new opportunities for students, faculty members and researchers.
