Washington D.C.: Donald Trump, sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, has signed a series of executive actions, signaling a bold start to his second term. Reports indicate that he signed approximately 200 executive actions, memoranda, and proclamations on his first day in office. These actions include reinstating border policies, redefining gender roles, and withdrawing the U.S. from international agreements.

Securing Borders and National Emergency Declaration

Trump declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border to deploy troops and enhance security. He also resumed construction of the border wall and reinstated the “Remain in Mexico” program, requiring asylum seekers to stay in Mexico during U.S. immigration proceedings. The president announced plans to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, a move likely to face legal challenges due to its conflict with the 14th Amendment.

Pardons for January 6 Convicts

Trump issued a proclamation pardoning over 1,500 individuals linked to the January 6 Capitol attack, including Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys. The pardons wiped criminal records of more than 700 convicted of misdemeanors and halted ongoing prosecutions. “This proclamation ends a grave national injustice and begins a process of national reconciliation,” Trump stated.

Redefining Gender Roles

Trump signed an order mandating the federal government recognize only two genders, male and female, declaring, “Sex shall refer to an immutable biological classification.” This decision aligns with his stance against “woke culture” and excludes gender identity from federal policies.

TikTok Ban Paused

An executive order temporarily halts a ban on TikTok, allowing a 75-day window for negotiations to address national security concerns. Trump hinted at forming a joint venture involving TikTok and U.S. entities.

U.S. Withdraws from WHO and Paris Climate Agreement

Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris Climate Accord. He criticized the WHO for alleged inefficiency and reiterated his opposition to the climate pact, calling it a “rip-off.” The withdrawal from the Paris Agreement disrupts the U.S. commitment to net-zero emissions under Biden’s administration. Trump instead declared an “energy emergency,” advocating for increased drilling and the rollback of electric vehicle mandates.

Renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Denali

Trump proposed renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” and reverting Alaska’s Denali back to its original name, Mount McKinley, as part of his agenda to “restore historical identity.”

Federal Hiring Freeze and Government Efficiency

A hiring freeze on federal jobs was imposed, with exceptions for military roles. Trump also tasked Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to streamline federal operations and improve service delivery.

These sweeping measures underscore Trump’s agenda to reassert his vision of governance and prioritize policies reversing those of previous administrations.
