Dolly Parton Legendary American Singer Dies at 80

Dolly Parton, the legendary singer, songwriter and philanthropist who rose from poverty to become one of America’s most beloved stars, has died at the age of 80.

Parton died peacefully at her Nashville home on Tuesday, according to a family statement. Her nephew Bryan Seaver issued the statement, which said the family would hold a small private service.

A remarkable musical legacy

Parton enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades. She wrote more than 3,000 songs and became one of the most influential figures in American country music.

In Coat of Many Colors, Parton recalled her mother sewing clothes for the family in their rural Tennessee home.

She also starred in the 1980 film 9 to 5. The song of the same name became an anthem for American workers and women.

Personal struggles

Parton had spoken publicly about health challenges during the past two years. She also faced a difficult period following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025.

Earlier this year, she told fans that she had neglected her own health while caring for Dean and grieving his death.

Despite those challenges, Parton remained an enduring figure in American popular culture. Her music, philanthropy and public work earned her a reputation as a unifying and widely admired star.
