Atletico Madrid Beat Osasuna as Real Betis Secure Champions League Spot

Atletico Strengthen Fourth Place in La Liga

BARCELONA: Atletico Madrid strengthened their hold on fourth place in La Liga after securing a 2-1 victory over Osasuna on Tuesday.

English forward Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after a handball by Javi Galan.

Sorloth Adds Second Goal

Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth doubled Atletico’s lead with 20 minutes remaining in the match.

He scored with a close-range header that beat goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez.

However, Atletico faced pressure after Marcos Llorente received a red card following two dangerous fouls.

Osasuna pulled one goal back during injury time through Kike Barja, but Atletico managed to hold onto the lead.

Atletico Remain in Top Four

The win moved Atletico Madrid to 66 points in the league standings.

They remain behind newly crowned champions FC Barcelona with 91 points, Real Madrid CF with 77 points, and Villarreal CF with 69 points.

All three clubs still have one game in hand.

Real Betis Confirm Champions League Qualification

Meanwhile, Real Betis secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after defeating Elche CF 2-1.

The victory guaranteed Betis at least a fifth-place finish in La Liga.

The club now holds 57 points and sits seven points ahead of sixth-placed Celta Vigo.

Betis Return to Europe’s Elite Competition

The qualification marks Betis’ first appearance in the Champions League since the 2005-06 season.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini described the achievement as a major milestone for the club.

He said the team had targeted Champions League qualification from the opening day of the season.

Pellegrini praised his players for recovering strongly after setbacks throughout the campaign.

Relegation Battle Intensifies

At the bottom of the table, Levante UD climbed out of the relegation zone after a dramatic 3-2 win against Celta Vigo.

Several clubs remain tied on 39 points near the relegation zone, including Elche and RCD Espanyol.

Betis Prepare for Barcelona Clash

Real Betis will next face league champions Barcelona on Sunday in another key La Liga fixture.

Football analysts believe Betis’ return to the Champions League highlights the club’s steady progress in recent seasons under Manuel Pellegrini.
