Karachi: Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tesori praised Akhuwat Foundation and its founder Dr. Amjad Saqib, calling them a “ray of light in the darkness.” Speaking at a fundraising ceremony at the Governor House, he emphasized that if wealthy individuals donated just 10% of their wealth to the needy, poverty could be eradicated from Pakistan.

The event, organized by Akhuwat Foundation, witnessed large-scale donations. Dr. Amjad Saqib and Akhuwat Foundation Karachi President Danish Aman also addressed the gathering.

Akhuwat’s Impact on Millions

Governor Sindh highlighted that Dr. Amjad Saqib has provided Rs. 300 billion in interest-free loans, benefiting over 30 million people. However, he noted that challenges persist for the remaining 210 million citizens.

Expressing concern over the country’s economic crisis, he stated, “Even after 77 years, the issues for which Pakistan was created remain unresolved. We are indebted to the IMF, our economy is unstable, and rising frustrations are fueling crime. We are all responsible for this situation.”

He further acknowledged the contributions of Pakistanis abroad, mentioning that a Pakistani led the State Bank of Saudi Arabia for 15 years and that Pakistanis have played a significant role in the development of Qatar, Turkey, and the UAE.

Call for Greater Social Responsibility

Governor Tesori stressed that accumulating excessive wealth without contributing to society is futile. “We will be held accountable for our wealth in the hereafter,” he warned.

He also expressed concern over education, stating, “It is alarming that 25 million children in Pakistan are out of school, and many who attend do not even have breakfast at home.”

Highlighting Akhuwat’s role in empowering women, he noted that the foundation’s first loan of Rs. 10,000 was given to a woman. Governor Tesori also announced a personal donation of Rs. 2 million to Akhuwat Foundation.

Akhuwat’s Growth and Vision

Dr. Amjad Saqib shared the foundation’s success story, stating that it began with just Rs. 10,000 and has now reached Rs. 3 trillion, assisting 6 million families. He revealed that the loan repayment rate stands at an impressive 99%.

Akhuwat Foundation currently operates 800 offices in 400 cities across Pakistan, employing 8,000 workers. However, Dr. Amjad expressed a desire to expand in Karachi, where only two branches exist, with a vision of establishing 100 offices.

He also highlighted Akhuwat University in Lahore, where 15,000–20,000 students receive free education. “Even a poor woman contributed Rs. 500 towards the university, which was built at a cost of Rs. 5 billion. This exemplifies the spirit of giving,” he added.

Dr. Amjad reaffirmed Akhuwat’s mission to ensure no student is deprived of education due to financial constraints. He also praised Indus Hospital for providing free medical treatment to millions.

Public Support and Recognition

Danish Aman expressed gratitude to donors, stating, “The passion of the people ensures that we will receive maximum support.”

At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Amjad Saqib presented a shield to Governor Sindh in recognition of his support for Akhuwat Foundation.
