Karachi: The Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR) launched the book The Security Imperative: Pakistan’s Nuclear Deterrence and Diplomacy, written by renowned diplomat Ambassador Zamir Akram. The book delves into Pakistan’s nuclear program and its strategic evolution, offering a deep exploration of the country’s defense policies and global positioning.

A Fresh Perspective on Pakistan’s Nuclear Journey

The book provides unique insights into the development of Pakistan’s nuclear deterrent under international scrutiny. Drawing on historical analysis, exclusive interviews, and first-hand accounts, Ambassador Akram presents a well-rounded view of Pakistan’s nuclear strategy and its impact on regional and global geopolitics.

Renowned for challenging internationally dominant narratives, Ambassador Akram’s work presents a nuanced perspective on South Asia’s nuclear dynamics. Esteemed figures, including Dr. Anatol Lieven, Dr. Antoine Levesques, and former Foreign Secretary Riaz H. Khokhar, have praised the book for its depth and significance.

Prominent Figures Praise the Book

At the launch event held at MITE University, Ambassador Sardar Masood Khan introduced the author and underscored the book’s value in enhancing understanding of Pakistan’s strategic imperatives. He called it a vital contribution to academic and policy discussions on regional stability.

Mr. Khalid A. Kidwai highlighted the book as an essential resource for diplomats and security enthusiasts, commending its authentic Pakistani viewpoint on nuclear policy.

Ambassador Qazi Khalilullah described the book as “a masterly account of nuclear South Asia,” recommending it to policymakers, strategists, and young readers. Similarly, Senator (R) Javeed Jabbar praised the work for its exploration of challenges shaping Pakistan’s nuclear agenda, calling it “a vital resource for understanding regional security dynamics.”

Ambassador Akram’s Remarks

Ambassador Zamir Akram described his book as “a testament to the resilience and determination of Pakistan in securing its sovereignty.” He expressed hope that the work would educate policymakers and the younger generation on the importance of strategic deterrence in maintaining peace and stability.
