Karachi: Commissioner of Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI), Miandad Rahoojo, has announced new reforms to facilitate industrial registrations under SESSI in the North Karachi Industrial Area. Addressing industrialists at a meeting with the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), Rahoojo emphasized the need for factories to register with SESSI, assuring them that old dues would not be collected. Contributions will only be demanded from the date of a worker’s registration, and the audit process for registered units is being revised to ease compliance.
Facilitation Desk at NKATI for Industrialists
A dedicated facilitation desk will be established at NKATI to streamline communication between industrialists and SESSI. A SESSI representative will be available at all times to address concerns. Rahoojo assured that industrialists would not face unnecessary trouble over previous audit cases, and arbitration opportunities will be provided before issuing notices under Section 81.
Healthcare Services for Workers
Highlighting SESSI’s healthcare initiatives, Rahoojo stated that 70% of the institution’s budget is allocated to providing healthcare services for registered workers. Despite resource constraints, hospital beds remain fully occupied, reflecting the demand for these services. He added that SESSI plans to upgrade its dispensaries and introduce modern healthcare facilities, including model operation theaters, in its hospitals. Agreements with Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Dow University have also been signed to enhance diagnostic services for workers.
Collaboration to Upgrade NKATI Welfare Hospital
SESSI will collaborate with NKATI to upgrade the NKATI Welfare Hospital. Rahoojo assured that all available resources would be utilized to improve medical services for workers in the region.
NKATI President Calls for Better Worker Benefits
NKATI President Faisal Moiz Khan welcomed the SESSI Commissioner and assured full cooperation from the Association. He urged SESSI to provide industrial workers with access to modern medical facilities and implement the Benazir Mazdoor Card to extend healthcare benefits to major hospitals across Karachi. Khan emphasized that workers’ contributions should directly benefit them without intimidating employers into compliance.
