- Zubair Motiwala and Mian Anjum Nisar announce a joint business alliance to contest FPCCI Elections 2027–28.

Zubair Motiwala, Anjum Nisar Form Pakistan Businessmen Alliance for FPCCI Elections 2027–28

Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) Zubair Motiwala and Chairman Businessmen Panel (BMP) Mian Anjum Nisar have announced the formation of the Pakistan Businessmen Alliance (PBA) to contest the FPCCI Elections 2027–28.

The alliance will field candidates for the president’s position and all other available positions in the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). It will bring together BMG, BMP and other like-minded groups and individuals on a shared platform committed to democratic principles, transparency, fair elections and the protection of the business community’s electoral rights.

The announcement came during a press conference at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday.

Alliance formed amid FPCCI nomination controversy

Motiwala and Anjum Nisar said recent developments surrounding the rejection of nomination papers submitted by KCCI and other organisations had raised serious concerns about procedural fairness, institutional transparency and Sindh’s representation in the country’s leading trade body.

They said the two groups had decided to contest the upcoming elections together to ensure that no trade organisation was deprived of its legitimate electoral rights.

The alliance leaders stressed that the FPCCI electoral process must follow the organisation’s governing rules, democratic principles and established provincial rotational arrangements.

The press conference was attended by BMG Vice Chairman Anjum Nisar, Jawed Bilwani, Mian Abrar Ahmed, KCCI President Talat Mahmood, Senior Vice President Aslam Pakhali and Vice President Atif Jamil Ur Rahman.

BMP leaders Haji Ghulam Ali, Zakaria Usman and Nasir Hayat Magoo were also present, along with former KCCI presidents Younus Bashir, Abdullah Zaki, Majid Aziz, Iftikhar Vohra, M. Idrees and Junaid Makda.

Other prominent business leaders included Ghani Usman, Sultan Chawla, Rahim Janoo, Hassan Bakhshi, Suleman Chawla, Faisal Moiz and Sohail Usman, as well as members of the KCCI Executive Committee.

BMG and BMP pledge long-term economic cooperation

Motiwala and Anjum Nisar said their partnership would extend beyond the FPCCI Elections 2027–28 and continue as a long-term collaboration to address Pakistan’s economic challenges.

They said both groups would jointly advocate economic reforms, industrialisation, export growth, investment, employment generation and solutions to persistent business-sector concerns.

According to the alliance leaders, Pakistan’s economic challenges require unity, collective expertise and coordinated engagement with the government and relevant institutions.

They described the new platform as an effort to strengthen the business community’s voice on issues of national economic importance and protect broader economic interests.

Motiwala questions provincial eligibility and rotational arrangement

Addressing the controversy over a proposed FPCCI candidature, Motiwala raised questions about the individual’s alleged electoral and organisational links with Punjab.

He said documentary records concerning the individual’s voting history, previous participation in elections and positions held in Punjab should be examined before accepting any claim to represent Sindh.

Motiwala also referred to an alleged change in the individual’s electoral record with the Election Commission of Pakistan in October 2025 and called for the relevant documents to be made available for verification.

He questioned how someone reportedly associated with another province through electoral and organisational affiliations could be presented as Sindh’s representative under the established rotational system.

He maintained that provincial entitlement should be determined through verifiable records, the originating trade organisation and applicable rules rather than an individual’s residential or business address alone.

According to Motiwala, the previous turn belonged to the Federal region, while the forthcoming turn rightfully belongs to Sindh. He questioned why the established sequence was being disregarded and why a candidature associated with another provincial jurisdiction was being advanced.

“Why should the established rotational arrangement be compromised when the turn belongs to Sindh? If every province is expected to respect the sequence, the same principle must apply equally to everyone,” Motiwala said.

He added that the rotational arrangement was not merely a formality but an institutional safeguard intended to ensure equitable participation of all provinces in FPCCI leadership.

Any departure from the agreed system, he warned, could weaken provincial representation and create an undesirable precedent for future elections.

Alliance calls for protection of Sindh’s representation

Motiwala urged chambers, trade associations and other stakeholders who support democratic principles and transparent electoral practices to unite in defence of the rotational system and Sindh’s electoral rights.

Highlighting Karachi’s economic contribution, he said the city accounts for more than 67% of national revenue and 54% of Pakistan’s exports.

He stressed that Karachi’s economic importance and Sindh’s claim under the rotational arrangement could not be overlooked.

“Denying the province its rightful opportunity is not an issue that can be taken lightly. We must stand together to protect our representation and ensure that the principles governing FPCCI’s elections are respected,” he said.

Reaffirming the alliance’s position, Motiwala said BMG and BMP would defend KCCI’s institutional rights and the business community’s legitimate representation through all available legal and regulatory forums, if necessary.

“We have reached a point where remaining silent is no longer an option, hence, we decided to contest the forthcoming FPCCI elections,” he added.
