Spotify is planning to launch an artificial intelligence-powered music remix service in the first quarter of 2027, potentially unveiling the feature around the Grammy Awards in February, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the plans.
The Swedish audio-streaming company is considering charging subscribers an additional $4 to $5 per month for access to the service, according to the report.
Spotify did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
AI Tool Could Let Fans Transform Songs
The proposed service would allow paying subscribers to create personalised versions of existing songs using artificial intelligence.
According to the Financial Times, users could transform a folk song into a dance track or create versions that make one artist appear to perform another artist’s music.

The feature would give subscribers new ways to experiment with music while using Spotify’s catalogue as the foundation for their creations.
Remix Royalties Would Go to Original Artists
Spotify’s reported plan includes a royalty-sharing arrangement for fan-created remixes. Payments generated through the feature would flow back to the original artists, while streams of the remixed versions would also count towards the original songs’ chart performance on the platform.
The arrangement could provide artists with an additional source of revenue from AI-generated versions of their work.
Licensing Agreements With Major Music Companies
Spotify has reportedly secured licensing agreements with Universal Music Group, independent label group Merlin and French music company Believe for the planned remix feature.
However, negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are still ongoing, according to the Financial Times.
The licensing arrangements are expected to play an important role in determining how Spotify introduces the feature and allows subscribers to use music from its catalogue.
Possible Launch in Early 2027
Spotify is reportedly targeting the first quarter of 2027 for the service’s launch, with the Grammy Awards in February emerging as a possible unveiling opportunity.
The company has not officially confirmed the feature, its proposed subscription price or its launch schedule.
If introduced, the service would add another AI-powered creative option to Spotify’s subscription offering, allowing users to experiment with different musical styles while creating new versions of existing tracks.
