Pakistan Stock Exchange trading activity as the KSE-100 Index declines during the week.

PSX Sheds 4,044 Points in a Week as Middle East Tensions Rattle Investors

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend during the past trading week, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing 4,044 points to close at 162,374 points.

The index fluctuated within a range of 4,406 points, reaching a weekly high of 166,698 points and a low of 162,292 points, reflecting persistent pressure on investor sentiment.

Trading volume during the week totalled 1.96 billion shares, with transactions valued at Rs96 billion. Meanwhile, the market’s total capitalisation declined by Rs465 billion to Rs18.014 trillion.

Middle East Conflict Weighs on Market Sentiment

Market analysts attributed the downturn to escalating tensions in the Middle East, attacks on Saudi Arabia and rising international oil prices, which discouraged investors from making fresh purchases.

They said uncertainty surrounding regional developments continued to weigh on the market, prompting investors to adopt a cautious approach.

Analysts added that greater clarity on a possible ceasefire would be crucial to restoring investor confidence and supporting a recovery in share prices.

Geopolitical Risks and Interest Rate Concerns

In an earlier trading week, the PSX also recorded a decline, with the KSE-100 Index shedding 670 points to close at 166,419, compared with the previous week’s close of 167,089 points.

During those five trading sessions, the index reached a high of 166,988 points and a low of 164,060 points.

Market sentiment was affected by geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, alongside concerns about a possible interest rate increase.

Investors remained cautious as they assessed the potential impact of regional instability and higher borrowing costs on economic activity, corporate performance and future market conditions.

The latest weekly decline highlights the continued sensitivity of Pakistan’s equity market to international developments, particularly regional security risks and fluctuations in global energy prices.
