KARACHI: Sheikh Umer Rehan has been elected unopposed as President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), while Syed Farrukh Ali Qandhari was elected Senior Vice President and Nasir Sheikh Vice President.
The Election Commission, comprising Syed Farukh Mazhar and Sheikh Fazal Jalil and headed by Syed Johar Ali Qandhari, announced the newly elected office-bearers and members of the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee members elected unopposed include Zahid Saeed, Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Rehan Javed, Faizan Javed, Sohail Ilyas, Sohail Elahi, Shabbir Balwani, Yasir Gulzar, Syed Safwan Akif Hussain, Atif Iqbal, Karim Teli, Syed Hasnain Mazhar and Muhammad Shafi. Amber Ali was also elected unopposed on the reserved seat for women.

Sheikh Umer Rehan has previously served as KATI president and represented the industrial and business community during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also remained active in addressing industry-related issues as Chairman of the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA).
Speaking after his election, Rehan thanked Patron-in-Chief S. M. Tanveer, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, former chairmen and presidents, and members of the Executive Committee for their confidence.
He said he would make every effort to fulfil the expectations of industrialists and the wider business community. He added that KATI would continue to raise industry-related issues at relevant forums, work to improve the business environment, promote exports and support greater industrial activity.
Rehan said the promotion of industry was essential for strengthening the national economy. He pledged that KATI would continue working to resolve the concerns of industrialists and improve coordination between the government and the business community.
He also said the new Executive Committee would pursue the promotion of industry and trade through consultation, unity and a collective strategy.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya and senior members congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and wished them success during their tenure.
They expressed hope that the new leadership would address challenges facing the industrial and commercial sectors, promote business activity and effectively present the legitimate demands of the business community before relevant authorities.
