The company announced the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP on Tuesday alongside new AI-focused subscription plans. The system uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect AI coding agents, including Claude, Cursor, Codex and ChatGPT, with the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Previously, developers had to move between several Meta services, including the Developer Console, Business Manager, API documentation and their coding environment, to configure WhatsApp Business messaging.
With the new MCP server, businesses can describe their requirements through an AI agent, which can then assist with several setup tasks. These include creating a WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying a phone number, and registering the account for access to Meta’s Cloud API.
The AI agent can also help businesses review Terms of Service requirements and identify issues that could prevent the setup from being completed.
Meta said the system can also assist with messaging templates. Businesses can create templates from natural-language descriptions or modify existing ones through AI agents.

The agents can further test messages and webhooks while monitoring configuration issues related to payment methods, Business Verification and Terms of Service requirements. This could help developers detect problems earlier in the setup process.
The WhatsApp Business Tools MCP is part of Meta’s broader expansion of MCP-based tools for developers working with its social technologies. The company also offers the Meta Social Technologies MCP, which helps developers discover API endpoints, search documentation and troubleshoot development errors.
MCP is increasingly being adopted by technology companies as a way for AI agents to interact with platforms and services. Companies including PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, Google and Microsoft have introduced MCP servers or related tools for AI-powered workflows.
