The 31-year-old was arrested by Derbyshire Police on Saturday night on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre. Police later released him after he agreed to leave the area.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) referred the matter to the Cricket Regulator for investigation. The board said Carse would remain unavailable for selection while the investigation continues.
Carse has since left England’s squad and 23-year-old Sonny Baker has replaced him.
Carse played no part in England’s first Test against Pakistan at Headingley, which Pakistan won by an innings inside three days. Durham had released him from the England squad so he could play against Derbyshire in a County Championship match.
Footage later appeared on social media showing Carse in handcuffs outside a Derby bar. Durham teammate Matthew Potts was also present, while former England captain Ben Stokes appeared in the background.
The incident happened less than 48 hours before Carse was due to rejoin England in London ahead of the second Test at Lord’s.

Carse’s absence adds to a difficult summer for England, with several players facing scrutiny over off-field incidents. Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson previously received written warnings following a nightclub incident in June.
Carse has also overcome previous disciplinary issues. He received a three-month ban in 2024 for historical betting offences before establishing himself as an important member of England’s bowling attack.
Since making his Test debut in October 2024, Carse has taken 58 wickets, the most by an England bowler during that period.
The second Test between Pakistan and England begins at Lord’s on August 27.
