Pakistani freelancers working in Pakistan’s growing digital economy

Freelancers Pakistani Freelancers’ Earnings Expected to Exceed $2.5 Billion

Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) founder and chairman Ibrahim Amin said Pakistan has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest emerging freelancing market.

Pakistani freelancers earned $1.76 billion from exports during the previous fiscal year, according to Amin.

He said freelancers generated $175 million in export earnings in July, the first month of the current fiscal year. Based on the sector’s growth, he expects annual earnings to cross $2.5 billion.

The government will hold an event at Governor House Karachi on August 29 to recognise the achievements of Pakistani freelancers, Amin said.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja will attend the event. She will encourage freelancers and acknowledge their contribution to Pakistan’s digital economy.

Amin also urged the government to review the 5% tax on educational platforms on YouTube. He called for an exemption for active educational channels or a reduction in the tax rate to 1%.

He argued that the government should distinguish educational content from entertainment platforms when applying taxation policies.

According to Amin, Pakistan now has more than 3 million freelancers. He said supportive government policies could help increase this number and boost the country’s IT services export earnings.

The growing freelancing sector has become an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan. Further expansion could strengthen the country’s digital economy and create more opportunities for skilled workers.
