Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Penix’s clearance after Atlanta’s 34-6 preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.
“Mike is cleared for 11-on-11. He’ll practice Monday in team periods,” Stefanski said.
Penix suffered a torn ACL in November and underwent knee surgery. He has spent the offseason recovering from the injury.
The Falcons signed veteran quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during the offseason. The former Miami Dolphins quarterback gives Atlanta another option while Penix competes for the starting role.

Penix started nine games last season. He also started three games during his rookie campaign after backing up Kirk Cousins in 2024.
Before his injury, Penix appeared likely to become Atlanta’s first-choice quarterback. Tagovailoa’s arrival has now created competition for the position.
Penix said on Thursday that he feels comfortable moving in the pocket and can perform all the necessary movements.
Cooper Rush and Jack Strand have taken most of Atlanta’s preseason quarterback snaps so far.
Tagovailoa completed three of five passes for 22 yards in limited action during the preseason opener. Atlanta lost that game 27-7 to the Denver Broncos on August 14.
The Falcons will play their final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Friday. Penix’s return to full practice could give him an important opportunity to strengthen his case for the starting job.
