NEPRA considers proposed electricity tariff increase under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.

Electricity Prices may increase by Rs1.34 per unit across Karachi and other parts of Pakistan for three consecutive months under the quarterly adjustment mechanism, according to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

NEPRA has reserved its decision on a request submitted by electricity distribution companies seeking the quarterly adjustment.

The regulator will announce its decision after completing a detailed review of the request.

Additional Burden on Consumers

According to sources, approval of the proposed adjustment could place an additional burden of around Rs34 billion on electricity consumers.

The proposed increase would remain applicable for three months if NEPRA approves the adjustment.

The quarterly adjustment mechanism allows electricity prices to reflect changes in costs faced by power distribution companies.

Consumers in Karachi and other areas could therefore see higher electricity bills if the regulator approves the proposed increase.
