Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has appointed Mohsen Rezaei as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council.

Rezaei replaces Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, according to a decree published on Sunday.
Rezaei is a senior military adviser and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He also played a prominent role during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War, known in Iran as the “Sacred Defense”.
In his decree, Khamenei highlighted Rezaei’s extensive experience. He also wished him success in carrying out his new responsibilities.
At the same time, Khamenei thanked Zolghadr for his efforts during his tenure.
The leadership change comes amid heightened regional tensions. Over the weekend, Iranian state media published a list of demands attributed to Zolghadr.
The demands included lifting a US naval blockade and withdrawing military forces. They also called for a permanent end to the war.
However, it remains unclear whether Rezaei’s appointment will affect those demands.
Rezaei brings decades of military and political experience to the council. Therefore, his appointment could influence discussions on Iran’s security and regional strategy.
The Supreme National Security Council plays a key role in shaping Iran’s national security policy. Its decisions can also influence the country’s approach to major regional and international issues.
For now, Iranian authorities have not indicated whether the leadership change signals a shift in Tehran’s position.
