Facebook Monetization: Meta lowers eligibility requirements for content creators

Facebook Monetization has become more accessible after Meta introduced new eligibility requirements designed to help smaller content creators earn money on the platform.

Under the updated policy, creators can qualify for Facebook’s monetization programme if their content generates 300,000 views within a 28-day period. Eligible users can then earn revenue in US dollars through videos, reels and other content formats.

The change marks a significant shift from Facebook’s previous requirements, which required creators to have at least 10,000 followers, 600,000 minutes of watch time and multiple uploaded videos before applying for monetization.

Industry experts say the revised policy could open new opportunities for emerging creators, particularly in countries such as Pakistan, where digital content creation continues to grow rapidly.

The lower entry threshold may encourage more users to create original content and participate in the expanding digital economy. However, creators must continue to comply with Facebook’s community standards and platform policies to maintain eligibility.

Meta has initially rolled out the feature to a limited number of accounts. The company plans to expand access to more users over the coming months.

The announcement comes as Meta explores additional revenue streams across its platforms. The company has also revealed plans for subscription-based services on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

According to early reports, proposed premium services could offer users enhanced features, advanced tools and exclusive benefits. Reports suggest Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus may cost around $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus could be priced at approximately $2.99 per month. However, Meta has not officially launched these subscription products.

Analysts believe the monetization update could benefit thousands of Pakistani creators seeking to build online audiences and generate income through digital content.

As Facebook lowers the barriers to entry, more creators may gain access to monetization opportunities and develop sustainable careers in content creation.
