Rawalpindi: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has announced the convictions of 60 individuals involved in the violent events of May 9, 2023, when nationwide riots erupted following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The riots targeted military and public installations, including GHQ, Jinnah House, PAF bases, and other key sites.

Military courts sentenced the convicts to rigorous imprisonment terms ranging from two to 10 years. This move follows thorough investigations, due legal processes, and evidence-based trials.

Earlier Sentences Announced on December 21

On December 21, the ISPR announced the first phase of convictions involving 25 individuals. These sentences ranged from two to 10 years, with 14 convicts receiving 10-year terms. Many of these individuals were linked to the Jinnah House attack and assaults on GHQ and PAF Base Mianwali.

The ISPR described these actions as a necessary step toward justice and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the state’s writ. Additional trials are ongoing in Anti-Terrorism Courts, and convicts retain the right to appeal their sentences under the Constitution.

The ISPR stressed the need to deter violence-driven political agendas in the future, urging citizens not to fall prey to propaganda and to respect the law.
