Speaking to the media, NCIA Director General Khurram Ali said the agency has prepared a comprehensive action plan to address the growing threat of WhatsApp and bank account hacking.

According to Khurram Ali, the NCIA will soon launch a dedicated helpline to help victims recover hacked WhatsApp accounts and receive guidance on cybercrime-related issues.

In addition, the agency will begin a public awareness campaign with Meta. The campaign will use local languages to educate people about online fraud and cyber scams.

Khurram Ali said two-step verification has reduced some WhatsApp hacking cases. However, cybercriminals continue to develop new methods to target users.

He added that the rapid growth in internet and smartphone use has contributed to an increase in cybercrime across the country.

Meanwhile, authorities have arrested several cybercrime gangs through international cooperation. They are also introducing advanced technology to prevent the misuse of one-time passwords (OTPs).

The NCIA chief urged people never to share OTP codes received on their mobile phones. He warned that sharing these codes remains one of the main reasons criminals gain access to WhatsApp accounts and bank accounts.

Furthermore, he advised citizens to enable security features and follow safe online practices to better protect their personal information from cyber threats.
