Virat Kohli Says He Has ‘Nothing Left to Prove’ Ahead of 2027 ODI World Cup

Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli said he has nothing left to prove in international cricket and will consider playing the 2027 ODI World Cup only if he can still contribute to the team.

The 37-year-old now plays only One-Day Internationals after retiring from T20 Internationals following India’s 2024 World Cup victory.

He also ended his Test career last year after appearing in 123 matches.

Kohli Focused on Team Contribution

Speaking on a podcast by Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli explained that he would not continue playing unless he remained useful to the team environment.

“If I can add value to the environment that I’m a part of and the environment feels like I can add value, I’ll be seen,” Kohli said.

According to Kohli, he still approaches every match with full intensity and commitment.

The former India captain said he fields every ball like it could be the last of his career and always gives his maximum effort for the team.

Kohli Responds to Criticism

Kohli also addressed criticism surrounding his performances in recent years.

He said repeated questions about his value become frustrating when selectors already express confidence in him.

“Either tell me on day one I’m not good enough or I’m not needed,” he said.

“Or if you’ve said I’m good enough, then be quiet.”

Strong ODI Numbers Continue

Last year, Kohli played 13 ODIs and scored 651 runs.

After returning to the IPL this season, he already registered another century.

Overall, Kohli has featured in 311 ODIs and scored 14,797 runs at an average of 58.71.

Only Sachin Tendulkar has scored more ODI runs with 18,426.

2027 World Cup to Be Held in Africa

The 2027 ODI World Cup will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia during October and November next year.
