Spain World Cup celebrations filled the streets of Madrid on Monday as the national football team marked its second FIFA World Cup title with an open-top bus parade through the Spanish capital.

Government estimates said nearly two million fans gathered across Madrid to celebrate Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup final in New Jersey.

The players travelled aboard a bus carrying the slogan “Kings of the World” and displaying two large stars to represent Spain’s two World Cup triumphs. Supporters dressed in Spain’s red jerseys and waved national flags as they cheered the champions.

Fans travelled from across Spain and abroad to join the celebrations. Fran Carratala, 34, arrived from Catalonia, saying he wanted to witness the historic moment in person. Daniel Gaona, who lives in Estonia, also returned to Spain to celebrate with fellow supporters.

The squad greeted fans throughout the parade by waving from the bus and tossing footballs into the crowd. Several players wore T-shirts reading “We are champions,” while others celebrated shirtless. Forward Borja Iglesias entertained supporters by performing as a DJ during the procession.

Earlier, King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez welcomed the team before the parade. Both had attended Sunday’s World Cup final.

Addressing the squad, Sánchez praised the players and coaching staff for their commitment, style of play and achievement. He also expressed hope that Spain could win a third men’s World Cup when the 2030 tournament is co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

The celebrations continued late into the evening as thousands of supporters marked one of the country’s greatest football achievements.
