SMIU: TechFest 3.0 Showcases Students’ Innovative Technology Projects

KARACHI,: SMIU hosted TechFest 3.0, an exhibition and evaluation event showcasing innovative technology projects developed by graduating students.

Sindh Madressatul Islam University organised the event in collaboration with its Business Incubation Center (BIC), Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), and Faculty of Information Technology.

Prof. Dr. Jamshed Adil, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Business Administration and Commerce, Prof. Stephen John, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, inaugurated the event.

Students Showcase Technology Projects

Students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Department of Computer Science, and Department of Software Engineering participated in the exhibition.

The graduating students presented their capstone projects for live evaluation by a panel of industry experts.

Across the exhibition floor, students displayed working prototypes, AI models and software systems. Their projects covered artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, mobile and web applications, and emerging software engineering practices.

Meanwhile, industry professionals visited the project stalls and engaged directly with students. They questioned students about their design choices and assessed their work for innovation, technical quality and practical value.

The exhibition also gave students an opportunity to receive direct feedback from professionals before entering the job market.

Faculty Highlights Industry-Focused Education

Prof. Dr. Jamshed Adil congratulated the participating departments on the quality and diversity of the projects.

He said TechFest reflected SMIU’s efforts to promote cross-disciplinary thinking. He added that technical skills should also connect with real-world business and management needs.

Prof. Stephen John praised the organisers for creating a platform that extends learning beyond the classroom.

He said such exhibitions help students build confidence and communication skills. They also teach students how to explain and defend their work, which are important qualities for professional development.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan praised the students and faculty members from the AI, Computer Science and Software Engineering departments for their work throughout the semester.

He said TechFest 3.0 demonstrated the technical depth and innovative potential within SMIU’s Faculty of Information Technology.

He also reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to stronger industry partnerships so that student projects can create practical impact.

 

Industry Partnership

Shahid Ubaid, Manager of the Business Incubation Center, thanked the participants and evaluators for their time and engagement.

He highlighted the importance of industry collaboration in connecting academic projects with market-ready innovation.

The event reinforced SMIU’s focus on industry-aligned education while giving students practical exposure to professional evaluation and real-world technology challenges.
