SMIU hosts Start-Up Summit 6.0 showcasing student innovation ideas

More than 130 students present 34 start-up projects as experts highlight entrepreneurship’s role in economic growth and job creation.

KARACHI: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) hosted its “Start-Up Summit 6.0: From Concept to Success” at the university’s IT Tower, bringing together students, faculty, and industry experts to showcase innovative business ideas and promote entrepreneurship.

The event was jointly organised by the Faculty of Management, Business Administration and Commerce and the Business Incubation Center of SMIU.

The summit was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Mujeeb Sahrai, along with Dean Faculty of Management, Business Administration and Commerce Jamshed Adil and Dean Faculty of IT Abdul Hafeez Khan, alongside faculty members including Assistant Professor Shahid Obaid.

During the event, more than 130 aspiring entrepreneurs presented 34 innovative start-up ideas covering diverse fields such as digital marketing, healthcare devices, agriculture solutions, e-commerce platforms, environmental products, education tools, and financial services.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, while addressing students, said that every successful business begins with a creative idea. He encouraged young innovators to focus on developing original concepts and seek mentorship from the university’s incubation centre to turn ideas into viable businesses. He also appreciated faculty members for their efforts in organizing the summit.

Faculty members and industry experts praised the students for their creativity and emphasized that entrepreneurship plays a key role in generating employment opportunities and contributing to economic development.

Student projects included herbal and organic products, branding agencies, low-cost investment models, recruitment and HR solutions, soil enhancement tools, healthcare innovations, tax facilitation services, water purification systems, plastic-free products, and educational technology platforms.

Organizers said the summit reflects SMIU’s continued commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration. The event concluded with appreciation for students, mentors, judges, and faculty members for making the summit a success.

The university reaffirmed its vision to produce innovative graduates and support sustainable economic growth through education, research, and entrepreneurial development.
