Special Correspondent

Thar: Sindh Energy, Planning, and Development Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has lauded the Thar Block-II project for its significant contribution to Pakistan’s energy security and inclusive socio-economic growth. He also announced that coal gasification at Thar will soon begin, paving the way for fertilizer plant development.

During his visit, the Minister praised the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) for its mining operations and community development through the Thar Foundation. SECMC, a flagship public-private partnership between the Government of Sindh, Engro, and other stakeholders, is recognized as a game-changer in Pakistan’s mining sector.

The Minister inaugurated Pakistan’s first EV charging station for 70-tonne electric trucks in mining operations, aimed at cutting fuel costs and boosting efficiency. He also opened the second phase of Thar Foundation Hospital in Islamkot, featuring a new 50-bed Mother & Child Unit, and appreciated the foundation’s free healthcare services for over 370,000 patients.

Highlighting local empowerment, SECMC revealed that 94% of its workforce is from Sindh, with 60% from Thar, and over 2,000 youth trained in industry skills. The Minister also celebrated the foundation’s education initiatives, with 28 schools educating 5,000+ students and achieving a 100% matric pass rate.
