Karachi: Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, speaking at the “Awaz II” program organized by UNICEF, announced that the Sindh government has made over 22 laws for women and children’s rights. For instance, one key initiative abolishes birth registration fees across Sindh. Additionally, Shah shared that they are building 2 million homes for flood victims. Importantly, the government will give these homes to women, empowering them. Furthermore, they will soon introduce a new law for domestic workers’ rights, and authorities are strictly enforcing the Child Marriage Act.

Inclusive City and Other Initiatives Under Awaz II Program
Moreover, Shah unveiled plans to build a 75-acre inclusive city in Karachi, which will provide a safe environment for people with special needs. The Awaz II program also aims to combat child marriages, gender violence, and protect children. Shah noted that they will implement a €7.4 million intervention in Sindh through this program. As a result, this initiative will support the inclusion of girls and minorities in legislation and facilitate digital birth registration.

Partnerships and Future Plans
In addition, the Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and representatives from the British High Commission attended the ceremony. Notably, the Awaz II program already launched in Punjab and KP, and its implementation in Sindh marks another achievement in protecting vulnerable populations. Ultimately, this initiative highlights Sindh’s commitment to advancing the rights of women, children, and minorities while promoting social inclusion through legislation and infrastructure.
