Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has pledged to address the growing challenges of digital media, focusing on fake news and misinformation on social platforms. He emphasized that tackling this issue is essential for eliminating terrorism and extremism in Pakistan.

Fighting Misinformation on Social Media

While chairing the Apex Committee of the National Action Plan, the Prime Minister expressed deep concerns over harmful online content. He pointed out that certain groups operating abroad are deliberately spreading malicious narratives against Pakistan through social media.

“On the digital front, certain groups are spewing venom against Pakistan by distorting facts and twisting reality,” he stated. Furthermore, he stressed that these campaigns significantly damage the state’s image. Therefore, he urged all stakeholders to counter this challenge, ensuring national efforts against terrorism and extremism are successful.

High-Level Meeting

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal cabinet members, provincial chief ministers, and the Chief of Army Staff. Additionally, other high-ranking officials joined the session to discuss pressing national issues.

Recognizing Armed Forces’ Sacrifices

PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces in combating terrorism. He cautioned that misinformation campaigns, such as the false news about Rangers personnel’s martyrdom on November 26, undermine their efforts.

“Our forces have sacrificed immensely, and we will honor their efforts. Moreover, Pakistan will continue its path toward peace, stability, and prosperity,” he said.

Resolving Extremism

The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to eradicating extremism, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He identified Fitna Al-Khawarij as a major threat to peace. Additionally, he noted that economic growth and development cannot occur without national stability.

Implementing a Peace Plan

PM Shehbaz Sharif called on federal and provincial governments, along with security forces, to create a comprehensive peace plan. He emphasized that unity in thought and action is crucial to overcoming Pakistan’s challenges. Consequently, he assured the nation that the government would execute these plans effectively and efficiently.

Celebrating UNSC Membership

The Prime Minister also congratulated Pakistan on securing a non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. He described this as a proud achievement for the nation, highlighting its importance for Pakistan’s global standing.
