Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s global hit becomes the first Pakistani-made music video to reach the milestone on YouTube

Pasoori has become the first Pakistani-made music video to cross 1 billion views on YouTube, four years after the song became a global sensation.

Released by Coke Studio in February 2022, the collaboration between Ali Sethi and Shae Gill quickly grew from a popular Pakistani track into an international hit. Coke Studio announced the milestone on Instagram, thanking listeners who had streamed, sung and shared the song over the years.

Produced by Xulfi and Abdullah Siddiqui, “Pasoori” has become one of Pakistan’s most successful musical exports. It was the country’s most-streamed Pakistani song on Spotify in 2022 and continues to attract hundreds of millions of streams.

The song has reportedly accumulated nearly 405 million Spotify streams for Ali Sethi and Shae Gill combined.

Its international reach has been particularly notable. More than 90% of its YouTube views have reportedly come from outside Pakistan, with the official music video watched in more than 60 countries.

“Pasoori” also featured on the soundtrack of the Marvel series Ms. Marvel, exposing its distinctive sound and Pakistani cultural influences to a wider international audience.

The track has since inspired numerous covers in Pakistan, India and other countries. A Coke Studio Africa remix also brought Sethi together with Nigerian artists Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks.

The song’s latest milestone further underlines its lasting popularity and marks a significant achievement for Pakistani music on the global digital stage.
