Pakistan Turkiye Shehbaz Sharif Says Economic Partnership Enters ‘New Chapter’

The prime minister says Pakistan and Türkiye will expand trade, investment and strategic cooperation during talks in Istanbul.

Pakistan Turkiye relations are entering a “new and exciting chapter,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said after meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul.

In a statement on X, the prime minister described the meeting as highly productive. According to Shehbaz Sharif, both leaders reviewed the Pakistan–Türkiye Strategic Partnership.

Trade and investment

During the meeting, the leaders discussed trade, investment, defence cooperation, energy and technology.

They also exchanged views on regional peace, connectivity and people-to-people ties.

Furthermore, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect. They said these principles remain the best way to resolve disputes peacefully.

Meanwhile, the prime minister thanked President Erdoğan for his warm hospitality.

In addition, both countries agreed to work towards their shared target of $5 billion in bilateral trade.

They also pledged to strengthen their longstanding partnership through closer economic cooperation.

Business conference

Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif attended the Pakistan–Türkiye Business Conference in Istanbul.

There, he met leading representatives of Türkiye’s business community.

According to the prime minister, their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit reflected growing opportunities for investment and trade.

At the conference, he urged both countries to expand commercial and industrial partnerships.

Regional cooperation

During his visit, Shehbaz Sharif credited President Erdoğan with helping Pakistan secure a mediation role in efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran.

He also described the diplomatic initiative as one of Pakistan’s most challenging international assignments.

Overall, the official visit aims to boost trade, attract investment and deepen cooperation on regional issues.
