Foreign Office Hosts Interfaith Diplomatic Iftar in Karachi to Promote Harmony

Karachi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan Liaison Office in Karachi hosted an Interfaith and Intercultural Diplomatic Iftar Dinner at the State Guest House, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, religious scholars, business leaders, journalists and civil society representatives.

The event aimed to highlight the spiritual essence of Ramadan while promoting interfaith harmony, cultural dialogue and Pakistan’s positive and responsible role in global affairs.

Among the distinguished guests was Sami Abdullah Salim Al Khanjari, Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman, whose participation was described as a reflection of the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Oman.

Call for Dialogue Amid Global Uncertainty

Addressing the gathering, Director General of the Liaison Office Muhammad Irfan Soomro said the world was facing growing uncertainty, regional conflicts and rising extremism.

He stressed that dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect were essential pillars for sustainable peace and shared prosperity. The presence of representatives from diverse faiths and cultures at a single table, he said, conveyed a powerful message of peaceful coexistence despite differences.

Referring to the historic August 11, 1947 address of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said Pakistan was founded on the principles of religious freedom, equality and state neutrality — values that continue to guide its domestic and foreign policy.

Sindh’s Sufi Heritage Highlighted

The director general also underscored Sindh’s spiritual heritage, particularly the teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, whose message of humanity, love and goodwill remains relevant in today’s global environment.

Speakers noted that Ramadan symbolises patience, sacrifice, compassion and social responsibility — values that promote moderation and justice not only in society but also in international relations.

Bilateral Ties, Trade and Media Engagement

During the Iftar, participants exchanged views on bilateral relations, trade and investment prospects, cultural cooperation and the media’s role in presenting a balanced image of Pakistan globally.

The presence of journalists was described as vital in projecting Pakistan’s positive narrative at the international level.

Cultural Gesture and Closing Message

On the occasion, renowned artist Hameed Soomro presented a painting to Director General Muhammad Irfan Soomro — a gesture appreciated as a symbol of cultural expression and harmony.

Diplomatic circles observed that such gatherings help bridge divides among faiths and civilizations while reinforcing Karachi’s global importance and Pakistan’s commitment to responsible statecraft.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge by participants to advance the message of peace, tolerance and dialogue embodied by Ramadan in pursuit of global stability and shared prosperity.
