Karachi: The 78th Independence Day celebrations at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), which began on August 1, reached their peak with a vibrant event, “Patriotic Beats 3.0,” organised by the university’s Literary and Debating Society at Muin Hall, Dow Medical College.
The programme featured inter-departmental competitions in national songs and skits, giving students a platform to display their artistic skills, creativity, and patriotic spirit.
Speaking as chief guest, Principal of Dow Medical College Prof Dr Saba Sohail described the students’ enthusiasm and talent as a valuable national asset, urging them to carry the same dedication into their professional lives to contribute to Pakistan’s progress.
The event drew participation from students across multiple departments, with the hall decorated in green and white and national flags prominently displayed. The atmosphere was electric, filled with patriotic songs, applause, and chants of “Pakistan Zindabad.”

The national song competition was judged by Saifullah Minhas, a renowned artist in singing, theatre, painting, and poetry, while the skit competition was judged by Dr Sundus Afzal, known for her achievements in literature, arts, and stage performance.
Performances captivated the audience, especially the rendition of “Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhe” which drew loud applause and chants. Skits carried messages of sacrifice, unity, and solidarity, earning repeated standing ovations.
Prof Dr Sohail commended the Literary and Debating Society’s work, noting that “Patriotic Beats” has become an annual DUHS tradition that promotes national harmony and student engagement in the performing arts.
