Government raises diesel prices while cutting the petrol rate by Rs1.70 per litre.
Diesel Price has increased by Rs1.39 per litre after the government raised the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) on high-speed diesel by Rs2 per litre.
The increase has pushed the petroleum levy on diesel to Rs76.28 per litre.
However, the ex-refinery price of high-speed diesel fell by 61 paisas per litre. Despite this decline, the higher levy resulted in an overall increase in the retail price of diesel.
According to sources, diesel would have become cheaper if the government had kept the petroleum levy unchanged.

Meanwhile, the government kept the petroleum levy on petrol unchanged.
As a result, the price of petrol has fallen by Rs1.70 per litre.
The changes reflect adjustments in petroleum prices based on the latest pricing calculations and government decisions on the petroleum levy.
The government said the revised petroleum product prices would remain in effect for the stipulated period.
The latest adjustment means consumers will pay more for high-speed diesel, while petrol users will receive some relief from the reduction in its price.
