Karachi: The Ma’araka-e-Haq Azadi Sports Festival in Naya Nazimabad delivered another action-packed day as the Girls’ Category squash final witnessed rising star Damia Khan clinching the championship with a commanding straight-sets win over Vaishnavi Kishore, 11-5 and 11-7, in just 20 minutes.
In the semifinals, Vaishnavi defeated Habiba Khan, while Damia overcame Aiman Naseem to secure her place in the title match.
The Men’s Category final saw Inas Dilshad lift the trophy with a decisive victory over Naveed Rehman, while the Boys’ Category crown went to Adnan Zaman, who triumphed against Raheel Victor.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Arif Habib, Chairman of Naya Nazimabad, who congratulated the athletes, praised their performances, and presented the awards. “Pakistan has defeated India on the battlefield, and we are proud of our armed forces. Now, we must prove our dominance in sports and every other field,” he said.
Habib reaffirmed his commitment to developing world-class sports facilities in Pakistan, noting that Naya Nazimabad’s vision of becoming a Sports City had been realized, with 18 sporting events taking place simultaneously. He stressed the need for improved sports infrastructure, coaching, and training programs to elevate Pakistan’s global standing in athletics.
Also present were Syed Muhammad Talha (President, Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana), Muhammad Asif (Sports Manager), Raheel Karim (Senior Manager), along with players, officials, and sports enthusiasts. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the tournament’s standout performers.
