The State Bank of Pakistan releases the current account data for FY2025-26.
Current Account returned to deficit in FY2025-26 as Pakistan recorded a shortfall of approximately Rs39.5 billion, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). However, the deficit remained within the central bank’s projected range.

The SBP reported that Pakistan posted a current account surplus of around Rs522 billion in FY2024-25. In contrast, the external balance slipped into deficit during the latest fiscal year.
Meanwhile, the current account recorded a deficit of approximately Rs184 billion in June 2026. By comparison, Pakistan registered a surplus of around Rs62 billion in June 2025.
Earlier, the country recorded a current account surplus of approximately Rs142 billion in May 2026. However, the June figures reversed that monthly improvement.
The central bank said the FY2025-26 deficit remained within its official forecast. Accordingly, SBP Governor had projected the current account balance to remain between zero and one percent of GDP during the fiscal year.
The latest figures indicate that Pakistan’s external sector stayed broadly in line with official expectations despite the shift from surplus to deficit.
