Arrival of First Livestock Convoy Marks Opening of “Awam Dost Mandi” at Karachi’s Northern Bypass

KARACHI : The festive atmosphere of Eid-ul-Adha has officially arrived in Karachi as the first major convoy of sacrificial animals reached the “Awam Dost Mandi” at the Northern Bypass. The air resonated with the arrival of the season’s first two large transport trucks, carrying 43 high-quality, healthy animals brought by renowned trader Nek Muhammad from Kandhkot.

Departing from the traditional market management style, the “Awam Dost Mandi” administration has introduced a series of “customer-centric” initiatives. Upon entry, every animal is subjected to an immediate free medical screening by veterinary experts to ensure that citizens can purchase disease-free livestock with total peace of mind.

To facilitate both traders and their livestock, the administration has announced a 24-hour free water supply, providing between 8 to 30 liters per animal. In a move widely welcomed by the farming community, traders have been granted full autonomy to bring their own fodder, removing the burden of mandatory local purchases.

Administrator Tariq Tanoli emphasized that the market is designed to be more than just a trading hub. “Our vision is to transform this space into a secure, family-friendly destination. With the installation of modern street lighting and rigorous sanitation protocols, the market offers a festival-like environment even at night,” he stated.

A dedicated Food Street featuring top-tier brands is also nearing completion to cater to visitors. Regarding safety, Tanoli confirmed that security personnel have taken up strategic positions at all entry and exit points to ensure a foolproof environment for buyers and sellers alike.

With the arrival of the first convoy, hundreds of more trucks from across the country are expected to reach the Northern Bypass in the coming days, signaling a peak in market activity.
